1. Charging Cable

With EV chargers, cable length is important. The Home Flex charger comes with a 23 feet cable, but you can get 12, 18, or 25 feet cables as well.

With the charger, you will receive a cable with either a NEMA 14-50 or 6-50 plug. Additionally, the cable is durable and resistant to corrosion, making it the perfect option for outdoor charging.

Home Flex has a cord management system: the top edge is somewhat far from the wall to make wrapping the excess cord length simple, and allows the cord to tidy up when not in use.

The charger is also designed to be weather-resistant, allowing you to charge your car in any condition. The cable is also reinforced to withstand any wear and tear, making it a great choice for long-term use.

When docked, the unit’s J1772 plug swivels downward, making it easy to holster it. This feature helps to keep the cord from becoming a tripping hazard. Additionally, the swivelling plug makes it easier to remove the charger from the wall outlet.

2. Charging Speed

With this charger, you can adjust the charging current from 16 amps to 50 amps, so depending on the setting you set, you can charge your EV faster.

This charger’s maximum speed beats a lot of other level 2 chargers.

There are six charging currents that you can choose from: 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A, 48A, and 50A.

Features

3. Auto Restart

The Home Flex Chargepoint Charger has an auto restart feature that allows it to automatically restart the charging process when there is a power outage. This is a great feature to have, as it helps ensure that your device stays charged in the event of an unexpected power outage.

For example, if you are charging your device overnight and the power goes out, the charger will automatically reset and start charging again when the power comes back on.

4. Display

Let’s take a closer look at the charging display.

No Wi-Fi means solid white.

When it’s sold green, it’s ready to charge.

Blinking white means it’s not activated yet.

The green blinking means it’s scheduled for later charging.

Blue solid means it’s plugged in but not charging.

Red means something’s wrong.

Lastly, when it blinks blue, it’s charging.

5. Build Quality, Installation

There’s a plastic front on the charger and a metal heatsink on the back. The heatsink dissipates heat into the air. It keeps the charger from getting too hot, which could make it malfunction. You can also protect the charger with the plastic front so that it won’t get scratched.

In terms of dimensions, it measures 17x15x9.75 and weighs about 17.6 pounds.

In terms of waterproofing, it is rated as NEMA 3R. That means it’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation in most climates.

During installation, all the necessary hardware is provided.

ChargePoint charger comes in two different types: Hardwire and plug-in. For both types, ChargePoint provides great videos for installation. The hardwire version is a more permanent installation, while the plug-in version is more portable. Both chargers are easy to install, and ChargePoint provides excellent customer service and support. Both chargers are also energy efficient, and ChargePoint offers a variety of payment options. ChargePoint also provides a range of accessories, such as mounting kits, to make the installation process even easier.

Before beginning work, check site for appropriate mounting location and electrical capacity. Ensure homeowner has chosen a location with slack for charging cable, stud for mounting, and WiFi signal.

Determine desired charging amperage, plug type, circuit rating, and GFCI breaker requirements.

For plug-in installations, ensure outlet is located 500-660 mm (20-26 in) from the ground adjacent to the stud. Follow codes and ordinances and pull permit for electrical work.

6. App, Connectivity, Software

For controlling the Home Flex charger, you use the same app that catches public charging stations. In the menu, you can find the option for the home charger which makes it super convenient.

The app also provides real-time updates on charging status and battery levels. It has a user-friendly design and is easy to use. Additionally, the app allows for remote monitoring and control of the charger.

The connectivity is based on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Ensure your parking lot has a good Wi-Fi signal so you can set up your system and have the best experience.

A good thing about the app is that it has an alarm so you’ll know when your charger isn’t working. It’s compatible with both iOS and Android and supports Alexa and Siri voice control. In addition to being environmentally responsible, ChargePoint chargers are Energy Star compliant.

The Home Flex charger is also compatible with Alexa, so you can control it with voice commands. The charger is also compatible with most electric vehicles, so you can charge your car at home.

As part of the Setup and Registration process, ChargePoint software can locate your charger and give you accurate time-of-use electricity rates, so you can estimate the cost of charging.

Scheduling is another great feature. You can pick the time that works for you. We like that they have separate weekday and weekend scheduling options. For instance, you can charge your car overnight during the workweek and charge it during the day on the weekends.
